MANILA, Philippines – The teen actress who was known as “Peachy” in the Nineties hit teen series, “TGIS,” is now 34 years old.

Angelu de Leon, who celebrated her birthday on August 22, started her career with ABS-CBN via “Ang TV,”  until she moved to GMA and became an instant teen idol, doing box-office movies with her ka-love team, Bobby Andrews.

Angelu would later be married to Wowie Rivera, with whom she has a baby boy, Rafa.

She also has two girls, Nicole and Lois.

“I want to say na perfect ang buhay ko ngayon [that my life is perfect today],” Angelu said.

“Ang bait ng mister ko, ang babait ng mga anak ko [My husband and my children are very good to me]. What more could a wife and mother want in life?

“My life now is so different from the life I had when I was in my teens and early 20s. Admittedly, luka-luka ako noon — baliw sa pag-ibig [I was a fool in love].

“When I met Mr. Right, everything fell in place.

“Parang swak na swak kaming dalawa ni Wowie. Sabi nga nila, pinagbuklod ng langit.”

(It’s like Wowie and I are meant to me. As they say, destiny.)

Content with life

As for her birthday wish, “Wala na siguro [Perhaps none] for myself,” Angelu said, “kasi ang dami kong blessings na natanggap [because I’ve received many blessings].

“Itong career ko na lang, hanggang ngayon nandito pa tayo [Just looking at my career, I’m still around] and I am still given good projects.

“I’m so content with my life, wala na akong karapatang humiling pa [I have no right to ask for more].

“Good health na lang for my husband and our children.”

Angelu is part of the cast of GMA’s newest afternoon serye, “Pyra: Ang Babaeng Apoy.”

She plays the adoptive mother of Thea Tolentino who is cast as the main character, a girl born with pyrokinetic powers inherited from her dad, as portrayed by Christopher Roxas.

“Her real mom in the story is Roxanne Guinoo,” Angelu explained the story. “Pyra almost gets killed in one scene and I save her.

“Ako ang magpapalaki kay Pyra [I will be the one raising Pyra] and I will protect her from people who try to harm her.

“Pero ang totoo, si Pyra ang makakasakit sa kanila.” (But the truth is, it’s Pyra who can hurt them.)

Angelu has worked with Thea in the teen series “Teen Gen,” and she says the girl has potential.

“Mabilis siyang matuto. Yun naman ang dapat eh.” (She learns fast, as it should be.)

“They listen and they follow. And she easily gets into the scene kaya natutuwa ako [which is why I’m pleased].

‘Pasaway’

“Masuwerte ang mga teen stars ngayon kasi [Today’s teen stars are lucky because] they have a TV network to back them up and give them big projects.

“Noong panahon namin, hindi pa ganyan.” (It wasn’t like that in our time.)

“Though I was under contract with a film company, naging pasaway pa rin ako [I was still prone to trouble].

“Wala silang magawa kapag nagiging wild na kami.” (There’s nothing they could do when we got wild.)

“Ngayon, hindi na puwede ang pasaway.” (You can’t be like that anymore.)

“Kapag may attitude ka, tanggal ka na agad.” (If you have an attitude, you’re out.)

“Maraming naghihintay [There are so many waiting] for a big break in showbiz.

“Kaya advise ko sa mga teen stars ngayon [So my advice to today’s teen stars is], be professional and love your job so that it will love you back.” – Rappler.com
