'Her name is Oonagh Paige Heard. She’s the beginning of the rest of my life,' the 'Aquaman' actress writes on Instagram

Aquaman actress Amber Heard shared on Friday, July 2, via Instagram that she had privately welcomed a baby girl via surrogacy last April.

“I’m so excited to share this news with you. Four years ago, I decided I wanted to have a child. I wanted to do it on my own terms,” the 35-year-old star wrote, along with a picture of her and her baby Onnagh Paige Heard together.

“I now appreciate how radical it is for us as women to think about one of the most fundamental parts of our destinies in this way,” she added.

Heard, a single parent, also expressed her hope that one day “it’s normalized to not want a ring in order to have a crib.”

She continued: “A part of me wants to uphold that my private life is none of anyone’s business. I also get that the nature of my job compels me to take control of this.”

“My daughter was born on April 8, 2021. Her name is Oonagh Paige Heard,” Heard said. “She’s the beginning of the rest of my life.”

No other details surrounding the surrogate birth were revealed. Surrogacy is an arrangement or method of assisted reproduction where a woman (the surrogate) agrees to carry the baby for another person or couple.

Heard, 35, was previously married to actor Johnny Depp, 58, from December 2015 but filed for divorce in 2016. Her announcement comes four months after a British court refused Depp’s appeal to challenge the libel ruling on a published UK tabloid article saying he’s a “wife beater.”

In July 2020, Heard accused Depp of verbal and physical abuse as she took the stand in their contentious legal battle. Depp, however, countered the claims, saying that he is “opposed to all kinds of violence.” His daughter Lily-Rose Depp and longtime partner Vanessa Paradis rallied behind him.

Heard came out as bisexual in 2010 during GLAAD’s 25th anniversary event. “I don’t label myself one way or another – I have had successful relationships with men and now a woman. I love who I love; it’s the person that matters,” she said.

Heard is most known for her role in the Aquaman and Justice League movies as Mera. She also starred in The Joneses, Drive Angry, and 3 Days to Kill. – with reports from Paolo Alejandrino/Rappler.com
