MANILA, Philippines – Mon Legaspi, who played for Filipino bands Wolfgang and The Dawn, passed away on Monday, October 3, after suffering from cardiac arrest. He was 54.

His death was announced through The Dawn’s Facebook post.

“He joined our Creator earlier tonight due to cardiac arrest. Mon fought hard in the ICU and we are utterly heartbroken at the loss of a supremely professional musician, and a dear friend,” they wrote.

The band also asked the public to respect the privacy of Legaspi’s family.

Legaspi’s ex-wife Thelma Bowlen also confirmed his passing, reminiscing about their friendship despite their breakup.

“We started as friends, were band mates, and eventually exes that shared a beautiful daughter. I’m at a loss for words,” she wrote. “I’m deeply saddened and heartbroken for our daughter and our grandson he won’t get to meet.”

“It was only when Mon joined up that Wolfgang was finally complete,” Wolfgang’s Wolf Gemora wrote. “Never, ever settle for anyone or anything until you find the right person and/or situation that will make you thrive.”

The Dawn is known for their songs “Salamat,” “Iisang Bangka,” and “Tulad Ng Dati,” while Wolfgang’s tracks include “Halik ni Hudas,” “Darkness Fell,” and “Cast of Clowns.” – Rappler.com
