Broadcaster Eddie Ilarde dies at 85

Broadcaster and former senator Eddie Ilarde died Tuesday morning, August 4. He was 85 years old.

DZBB reported that Ilarde passed away in his home in Makati at around 11:40 am. The family clarified that his death was not COVID-19 related and that his remains will be cremated.

One of Ilarde’s relatives, broadcaster Laila Magistrado Ilarde-Ramos also confirmed his death through a Facebook announcement.

Ilarde’s career started back in the ‘50s. He also appeared on radio, television, and movies.

He is perhaps known for hosting Student Canteen and Swerte sa Syete. He also hosted two famous radio programs – Kahapon Lamang, Dear Kuya Eddie, at Napakasakit Kuya Eddie.

Napakasakit Kuya Eddie would later be an inspiration for a song performed by Roel Cortez in 1984.

Ilarde also served in government as Pasay City councilor from 1963 to 1965, as 1st district representative of Rizal, senator, and later an assemblyman during the time of President Ferdinand Marcos. – Rappler.com
