Catriona Gray named Philippine Red Cross ambassador
Catriona will be helping the information campaign on the coronavirus

Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray has been tapped by the Philippine Red Cross as their newest ambassador.

Speaking on Teleradyo on Sunday, September 6 with Philippine Red Cross chairperson and Senator Richard Gordon, Catriona said she was excited to be part of the team as a volunteer.

“[I’m] very flattered and excited for my new partnership with my new family, the Philippine Red Cross. I really believe in all the work they do especially during a time like this that our nation is facing this pandemic,” she said.

Catriona said she went to the Red Cross last week and took a swab test for the coronavirus

“It’s nothing to be feared, it’s just slightly uncomfortable, but having that sureness, knowing your result allows you to take proper actions to protect yourself and to protect the people around you,” she said.

Catriona said that as a Red Cross ambassador, part of her job is to talk about the importance of health guidelines for COVID-19.

“The longer we’re in the pandemic I feel the more it’s easier for people to become more complacent or to think it has passed. But it’s really consistent with the messaging that we really need to adapt all those health guidelines into our everyday lives, like doing hand washing or being aware kung may symptoms ka, knowing what symptoms to look out for, and really alerting your either workplace or your family or local health department agad agad,” she said.

“Also, making it a practice, if you don’t need to leave the house, please stay home, please stay safe, and always be mindful of the environment and the people around you.”

“I hope I can utilize my platform as ambassador for Philippine Red Cross to really call for blood donations, and hoping to call for donations that will allow testing, services of the Philippine Red Cross, to be accessible to every single Filipino.”

The Red Cross joins the growing list of organizations Catriona has been supporting. She has been working with Young Focus Philippines and Love Yourself prior to winning Miss Universe.

She is also an ambassador for the National Commission on Culture and the Arts and the Department of Trade and Industry’s One-Town-One-Product (OTOP) program. – Rappler.com
