'I know I will be paying the price for this as there may be a lot at stake' says Cherie Gil

Cherie Gil announced on Saturday, May 8, that she has decided to leave an unnamed television project because her efforts aren’t “seen and met in the same light.”

In a Facebook post, the veteran actress revealed that it was a “long excruciating process” to arrive on a “difficult and even painful decision.” But Cherie said that “the signs were everywhere” and the choice to leave couldn’t be any clearer.

“To my deep sadness, I finally had to leave a soap halfway through. And to be honest, for a committed actor such as myself, I would have wanted to see my character within the story until its end,” she began.

Cherie shared that in her nearly five decades of acting, she gives utmost importance in the creative process of any of her projects. “48 years of knowing and doing that one thing I love most which is to act, led me to this point. Was it really worth it? I ask myself. The time, the energy, the heart, the tears, the sleepless nights and long hours, the devotion, the dedication, the respect and reverence invested to the work,” she said.

The actress then lamented how disappointing it is to not see the same dedication among her colleagues. “It is disheartening and blatantly frustrating when it isn’t seen and met in the same light and given equal energy,” she continued.

“I have always believed that any form of creativity blossoms from collaboration and a unified goal.  The whole process of this work is SACRED to me. Without this process, there is no joy to be found, no minds to learn from and no point,” Cherie then stressed that limiting an artist’s potential will only lead to “chronic mediocrity.”

In the same post, Cherie said she’s aware that she will be “paying the price” for this sudden decision but she’s “willing and ready now to settle the deal and move forward.”

“But one thing I am sure, is that I HAVE NO REGRETS. Is it now all worth it? Well… It better be,” the actress declared.

While Cherie did not specify which project she is referring to, the actress’ recent known project is GMA’s upcoming cultural-drama series Legal Wives, wherein she was announced as part of the cast in November 2020.

In December 2020, Cherie even expressed her excitement to work with Starstruck alumna Shayne Sava in Legal Wives. “Here, I can witness her grow and blossom. She’s truly one talent to watch out for,” she wrote.

The actress also posted a teaser of her Legal Wives character Zaina Macadato on her Instagram.

GMA has yet to release a statement on this matter. – Rappler.com
