Singer Kim Him-chan, more popularly known as Himchan, has been convicted of sexual assault and sentenced to 10 months in prison.

According to a report by the Korea Times, the Seoul Central District Court convicted the singer and ordered him to undergo a 40-hour treatment program for sex offenders.

Himchan was indicted without detention in April 2019 for forcefully kissing a woman and grabbing her breasts while drinking with her and 4 other friends at a guesthouse in Gyeonggi Province. The assault happened in July 2018.

Himchan denied the charges and pleaded not guilty, claiming that his interactions with the victim had been consensual.

According to the Korea Times report, the court did not detain Himchan right away following the ruling, and gave him time to ask forgiveness from the victim.

Himchan was a member of K-pop boy band BAP, which debuted in 2012 under TS Entertainment. The group disbanded in February 2019.

The singer was also charged for drunk driving in October 2020, after he crashed his car in Gangnam. – Rappler.com
