“Nothing but pure and good intentions… Tayo tayo ang magtulungan,” Gabbi says

Gabbi Garcia has assisted in setting up a community pantry in their neighborhood in BF Northwest, Parañaque City, the actress shared on April 20, Tuesday.

“Posting this with nothing but pure and good intentions,” she said alongside photos of their pantry stocked with packed food items, fresh produce, and other basic necessities.

The 22-year old actress also thanked those who donated and volunteered to make their initiative possible. “This is to inspire everyone that despite of the situation, we can all help each other in our little way,” she said.

“To all the community pantries, salamat sa inyo (thank you). Keep going. God bless your pure hearts! Tayo tayo ang magtulungan (Let’s help each other),” Gabbi concluded her post.

The first community pantry was set up on Maginhawa Street in Quezon City last April 14 by 26-year-old Ana Patricia Non. The initiative follows the principle “Magbigay ayon sa kakayahan, kumuha batay sa pangangailangan (From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs)” wherein community members can contribute what they can and take what they need, without judgment of how much.

Since then, various community pantries have emerged all over the Philippines including ones in Bacolod, Laguna, Camarines Sur, Iloilo, and Iligan. The movement turned controversial after several organizers faced threats of red-tagging.Rappler.com
