Investigation reveals Naya Rivera called for help before drowning

Naya Rivera had called for help before drowning to her death, an investigative report released by the Ventura County Medical Examiner revealed.

Naya went missing on July 8 after her boat rental was found floating on Lake Piru in Ventura County, California. Her body was recovered from the lake on July 13, and she was declared dead at age 33.

The report – which included a full autopsy – was obtained by various US media outlets, including PEOPLE.

In the report, the actress’ 4-year-old son Josey recalled jumping off the boat into the water together with his mother. Josey also said that Naya told him to go back to the boat after they got into the water.

The report said that Naya helped her son back onto the boat. He then heard her call for help and put her arm in the air before disappearing into the water.

While Naya was considered a good swimmer, the report noted that she had a history of vertigo that worsened while she was in the water.

The autopsy ruled her death an accident, with the cause of death being drowning. It noted that Naya had no known history of suicidal ideation or attempts.

Naya was best known for her role as high school cheerleader Santana Lopez in the teen musical series Glee. The show ran for 6 seasons, from 2009 to 2015. – Rappler.com
