Japanese action star Shinichi “Sonny” Chiba died in the hospital from complications related to COVID-19, public broadcaster NHK said late on Thursday, August 19. He was 82.
Chiba, a martial artist and imposing actor known for his legendary fight scenes, was best known in the West for his role as sword maker Hattori Hanzo in the Kill Bill series of films.
His entertainment career started in the 1960s, appearing in several Japanese film and TV series, as well as in other American films. Aside from acting, Chiba also demonstrated his martial arts skills by choreographing fight scenes for films. – Rappler.com
