John Lloyd Cruz says he's 'excited to be back'

For the first time since his showbiz hiatus in 2017, John Lloyd Cruz made a live television appearance on Sunday, June 6, in an event for online shopping platform Shopee. 

John Lloyd performed a version of the 70s hit “Yakap,” which was originally sung by singer Junior Morales. The 37-year-old actor added that  he’s nervous and “nanginginig” (trembling) to be onstage again but he’s “excited to be back.”

John Lloyd also thanked Wowowin host Willie Revillame for making his showbiz comeback possible. “Nagpapasalamat sa’yo, nandito ako (I’m thankful because you made this happen)… Kuya Willie, I am here because of you, thank you,” he said. 

“Welcome back sa industriya kung saan ka nagsimula at alam kong dito tayo magtatapos rin. Welcome back John Lloyd Cruz!Willie replied. (Welcome back to the industry where you started and I’m sure that this is where we will always be.) 

Willie also teased viewers about another program of his that will feature John Lloyd. “Abangan niyo, magsasama kami ni Lloydie sa pagbibigay ng saya sainyo, sa primetime show,” he said. 

(Watch out for it. Lloydie and I will be together again to give you joy through a primetime show). 

On Monday, June 7, John Lloyd also posted a photo of himself from the TV special. In the caption, he thanked “Yakap” songwriter Vehnee Saturno. 

John Lloyd last top-billed the 2017 film Finally Found Someone with Sarah Geronimo before he took an “indefinite leave of absence” from showbiz in October 2017. He and actress Ellen Adarna welcomed their son in 2018
