He's back after an almost five-year showbiz hiatus

John Lloyd Cruz is returning to showbiz. This time, he will be under Maja Salvador’s talent management agency, Crown Artist Management (CAM).

“We are happy to share with you the CAMback of the one and only John Lloyd Cruz, now under Crown Artist Management,” the agency said in its Instagram account on Saturday, May 15.

“The time has already come” and “The John Lloyd Cruz is back” were some of the captions to promote the actor’s return.

Maja, who launched Crown Artist Management company in March 2021, also posted a video of John Lloyd disembarking from a private plane with the caption, “Get ready!” and the hashtag #TheCAMbackIsReal.

The 37-year-old actor last top-billed the 2017 film Finally Found Someone with Sarah Geronimo before he took an “indefinite leave of absence” from showbiz in October 2017. He and actress Ellen Adarna welcomed their son in 2018

Since then, he has rarely made public appearances, save for an ad for Turks, and then playing a small role in the December 2019 Metro Manila Film Festival entery Culion. In February 2020, it was revealed that John Lloyd was set to star in Servando Magdamag, a film directed by Lav Diaz and penned by Ricky Lee.

In November 2020, John Lloyd opened up to Boy Abunda about his hiatus from the entertainment industry. “Nakakaubos iyong dine-demand ng ganitong trabaho. And bilang creator, gusto mong makapagbigay lagi ng something worth their time. And kung ubos ka, medyo mahihirapan kang mag-deliver,” he said.

(The demands of this work drains you. And as a creator, you want to give something that is worth the viewers time. But if you’re exhausted, you’ll have a hard time delivering something worthwhile.)

Details of John Lloyd’s comeback projects have yet to be announced. But fans are already eager for the John Lloyd Cruz and Bea Alonzo project, which ABS-CBN Films managing director and film director Olivia Lamasan announced in January 2021.Rappler.com
