MANILA, Philippines – John Lloyd Cruz confirmed that he is set to return to the big screen soon, this time, with Jasmine Curtis-Smith as his lead actress.
According to a PEP report on Tuesday, March 8, the filming for the movie is set to begin in May. “Matagal na ito. Dapat mangyari na siya this year (This has been going on for a while. It should push through this year),” the actor was quoted as saying.
The report added that Jasmine was John Lloyd’s personal choice for this project: “Character-driven ‘yung consideration for Jasmine to be part of the film.”
“‘Yung character na nabuo namin together with the writer and the director, tingin ko, pwedeng ilapit sa kanya as something na pwede niyang iconsider, or pag-trip-an or trabahuhin. Para siyang bagay dun sa character na na-create,” he added.
(The character that the writers, directors, and I came up with is something that resembles Jasmine. I think it fits her.)
A GMA News report also said that John Lloyd praised Jasmine’s versatility after working with him in the pilot episode of the sitcom Happy ToGetHer. “Kaya niyang mag-transition from seryosong materyal to a sitcom (She can transition from serious material to a sitcom),” he said.
Additional details about the movie project have yet to be announced.
The 38-year-old actor last top-billed the 2017 film Finally Found Someone with Sarah Geronimo before he took an “indefinite leave of absence” from showbiz in October 2017. He and actress Ellen Adarna welcomed their son in 2018.
Since then, he has rarely made public appearances. He played a small role in the December 2019 Metro Manila Film Festiva entry Culion. In February 2020, it was revealed that John Lloyd was set to star in Servando Magdamag, a film directed by Lav Diaz and penned by Ricky Lee. The movie has yet to announce a premiere date.
