Kylie Padilla backs divorce bill after Aljur Abrenica’s accusatory post

Kylie Padilla backed calls to legalize divorce in the Philippines, after her estranged husband Aljur Abrenica posted an accusatory statement against her on social media.

Taking to Twitter on October 19, the actress said: “#passdivorcebill.”

A bill that seeks to legalize absolute divorce in the Philippines hurdled the House committee on population and family relations in February 2020. House Bill (HB) No. 100, or the proposed Absolute Divorce Act, is authored by longtime advocate, Albay 1st District Representative Edcel Lagman.

Kylie’s tweet came only hours after Aljur published a now-viral Facebook post implying that she had cheated on him.

“Tell them who cheated first. Tell them who wrecked our family. Tell them why I gave up on you, not on our family,” Aljur said, apologizing for breaking their previous agreement of not going public with their breakup.

Aljur then referred to a July interview with Kylie’s dad, Robin Padilla, where Robin implied that Aljur had cheated on Kylie.

“When your dad (Robin) opened to the public his one-sided story. I maintained my silence because of our agreement. But now that people who support us still throw accusations and reading you’re (sic) statements, it breaks my heart that you can sit still despite of the truth,” Aljur said.

He challenged Kylie to clear his name for the sake of their children. He also implied that Kylie was with someone new.

“Tell them who are you with right now. Have the courage to settle this. Tell your dad the truth. If not for them do it for our children. After so many years will you allow our children, let them believe this story that you and Dad left for me? At first it was fair for me, to take all the blame. Is it also fine with you guys to let the innocent be attacked with false accusations?” Aljur said.

Aljur and Kylie have been together on-and-off since 2011, before getting married in 2018. They have two sons.

Rumors of their split first started in February, when Kylie posted a series of cryptic Instagram stories, implying she was single again.

Their breakup was confirmed in July, first by Robin, and then by Kylie, who said that she and Aljur were “working on a healthy co-parenting relationship together” for their sons.

Until Aljur’s recent post, theirs appeared to be an amicable split. In October, Aljur was confirmed to be dating actress AJ Raval who said they were in the “getting to know you” phase of an “old-school courtship.”

At the time, Kylie tweeted that “there is no issue,” revealing that they have been separated since April, and “already mutually agreed to date other people.” – Rappler.com
