Viva sues Nadine for an alleged violation of her management contract

Nadine Lustre’s camp said they welcomed the move of Viva Artists Agency to sue the actress for an alleged violation of her management contract.

On Friday, December 11, Viva filed a lawsuit against Nadine before the Quezon City Regional Trial Court, claiming that the actress violated her management contract with Viva by dealing with various advertisers and other third parties independently.

In a statement to ABS-CBN, Nadine’s legal counsel Lorna Kapunan “welcomed” the complaint, adding that they “are confident that the truth will come out about [Viva] being predatory, oppressive, and abusive not only of Nadine but its many other talents.”

In January, Nadine announced that she had terminated her contract with the agency, and was managing her own career – though Viva later insisted that Nadine remained their exclusive artist until 2029.

Kapunan said that it was Viva which breached the contract, saying: “The contract is an Agency contract and Nadine is the Principal — and it is the right of the Principal to terminate the Agent when it is not performing its commitments under the Agency Agreement.”

She added that especially in a pandemic year, it was Nadine’s prerogative to earn without Viva getting a cut in agency fees “which it does not deserve.”

Nadine, launched an album under Careless Music in 2020 and appeared as an endorser for various brands.

She first joined Viva in 2009, as a member of the girl group Pop Girls, then signed a 5-year contract through her parents.

She rose to fame in 2014 after starring in Viva’s Diary ng Panget, where she was launched as a love team with James Reid, her ex-boyfriend. At the time, she renewed her contract with Viva for another 10 years, until June 30, 2024, with the same contract extended for another 5 years, until 2029, according to Viva. – Rappler.com
