Pia says she's looking forward to meeting Miss Universe 2020 Andrea Meza in person

Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach is confident Miss Universe Philippines 2020 Rabiya Mateo has a bright future ahead of her, even without the Mouawad crown.

“I know that lalo pa siyang mas sisikat (she’ll get more famous). More people will get to know her, more people are gonna love her, opportunities are coming her way,” said Pia during a media conference for hand soap Dr. Coco, of which she is an endorser.

Aside from posting messages of support for Rabiya on social media, Pia said she also consoled Rabiya right after the competition. “She replied that she’s fine and she’s doing well. But I advised her, sabi ko (I said), honestly, take your time. Ang sakit naman talaga (Because that’s really painful),” she shared.

“I know how much she’s worked hard for it,” Pia added. Rabiya has thanked Pia several times for her support and guidance throughout her Miss Universe journey.

Pia also reminded Rabiya that whatever she’s feeling is valid. “Everything you’re feeling right now is totally normal. We’re here for you. You’re not gonna go through this alone. We’re all gonna be here for you.”

She added that she’s confident that more people will support Rabiya even after the competition. “I’m sure she has a career waiting for her here in the Philippines. She’s very down to earth, she’s relatable, she’s funny. Hindi ako nagda-doubt na (I’m not doubting that) she’s already a big star,” Pia said.

“Diba nga ‘yung evening gown niya ay yellow. Feeling ko as bright as the sun ‘yung future niya,” Pia added. (Remember her yellow evening gown? I feel like her future will be bright as the sun.)

The 31-year-old Filipino-German beauty queen also shared how excited she is to meet Miss Universe 2020 Andrea Meza in person. “I’m yet to meet her but nakapag-message na kami (we exchanged messages) in social media privately,” she said.

Maraming magbibigay ng advice na i-enjoy, live in the moment, marami nang tao ang masasabi noon (A lot of people will tell her to enjoy and live in the moment), but the real advice is back up your files,” Pia answered when asked on what she would tell Andrea.

Pia said she learned this lesson the hard way. “I lost a lot of my pictures halfway through my reign because I didn’t back up my files. I’ll never get those pictures and memories back.”

She said that she always tell the newly-crowned queens to “invest in a nice camera and back up those files.” “Those memories will stay with you forever,” Pia said.

The Miss Universe 2020 coronation was held in Florida, USA on Monday, May 17 (May 16 in the USA). Philippines’ Rabiya Mateo landed in Top 21 while Mexico’s Andrea won the crown. Rappler.com
