The ‘Deadpool’ star shares his long-time struggle with his 'lifelong pal' in a recent social media post

Actor and entrepreneur Ryan Reynolds recently shared his personal journey with anxiety on social media to commemorate Mental Health Awareness Month.

In a post on Facebook on Wednesday, May 26, the actor introduced his “lifelong pal” – anxiety – and how it has caused him to “over-schedule and overwork” throughout his career.

“One of the reasons I’m posting this so late is I overschedule myself and important things slip. I know I’m not alone and more important, to all those like me who overschedule, overthink, overwork, over-worry, and over-everything, please know you’re not alone,” he said.

Despite being known for his wit and humor, Ryan was diagnosed with anxiety shortly after wrapping up the first Deadpool film. He started having nervous breakdowns and visited a doctor to see if there was anything wrong.

“I went to go see a doctor because I felt like I was suffering from a neurological problem or something. And every doctor I saw said, ‘You have anxiety,’” the 44-year-old actor said in a 2016 GQ interview.

The recent post told the public about his battle with anxiety and how important it is to talk about these kinds of mental health issues in public.

“We don’t talk enough about mental health and don’t do enough to destigmatize talking about it. But, as with this post, better late than never, I hope,” He said.

Ryan will return to the silver screen in June, as Michael Bryce in the sequel Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard. – with reports from Angelica Burlaza/Rappler.com
