Ate Shawee, Sharon Cuneta impersonator, dies at 45

Stand-up comedienne and Sharon Cuneta impersonator Marvin Martinez, more popularly known as “Ate Shawee,” died on Monday, July 26, due to liver cirrhosis. She was 45. 

Ate Shawee’s niece Rafaela de Jesus confirmed the news via Pep. According to the report, the comedienne passed away at the Chinese General Hospital, where she was confined since Saturday, July 24. 

Ate Shawee’s talent manager Freddie Bautista also posted a tribute on Facebook. “Maraming-maraming salamat sa raket, bonding, at magagandang samahan. Ate Shawee, mami-miss ka namin,” he wrote. (Thank you for all the bonding and good memories. We’ll miss you so much, Ate Shawee.) 

Early this July, Ate Shawee said her situation had gotten worse. “Hindi na pala ako gagaling (I won’t get better anymore),” she said in one of her Facebook posts. “Lumabas man, babalik ulit ospital. Walang-wala na ako, umaasa na lang ako [sa] mga [nagbibigay] tulong sa akin. (I might get discharged but I’ll still come back to the hospital. I’m so spent. I’m just relying on those who continue to help me.)”
