Toni Gonzaga has been cast as the female lead in the upcoming Philippine remake of the Korean drama My Sassy Girl.

The announcement was made on Wednesday, January 20, by TinCan Films, the film production company Toni co-founded. The announcement coincided with the Pinoy Big Brother host’s 37th birthday.

“In celebration of its 20th Anniversary, this year we will relive the classic Korean RomCom with its Philippine adaptation. On her birthday, we are proud to announce Toni Gonzaga is Philippines’ My Sassy Girl,” the company announced on its social media accounts.

More details about the project have yet to be announced, including the lead actor.

My Sassy Girl was a 2001 film starring Jun Ji-hyun and Cha Tae-hyun and became Korea’s highest top-grossing film. It tells the story of a college student who meets a drunk woman near a train rail and rescues her. Their odd bond from there begins.

It spawned a number of film and TV remakes in countries such as the US and Japan. –
