MANILA, Philippines (Updated) - In a tell-all interview on The Buzz Sunday, June 2, international Filipino singer Charice Pempengco answered questions about her family, her career, and her personal life.
The young singer, who had not responded to rumors about her sexuality, admitted she's a lesbian.
"Opo, tomboy po ako (Yes, I'm a tomboy)," she told The Buzz host Boy Abunda.
She thanked the people who understand and accept her, and apologized to those who don't.
(I don't know what the problem is. For me, there is no problem. Now, I want to ask for forgiveness from those who do not understand, those who cannot accept me. Sorry. I understand them. To everyone who accepts me, thank you very much.)
Charice said she feels light and free now that she has come out.
(Because of what I'm doing now, I feel light. I can go outside the house with nothing to hide.)
She also apologized to her family and the fans whom she may have disappointed.
Sorry. Alam niyo na sincere akong tao, from the bottom of my heart, I’m sorry. Naiintindihan ko. (Sorry, Mommy, Carl, but this is who I am. I am doing this because I am proud of myself. To my fans, I know a lot of you are disappointed. Some of you may turn your backs on me. Sorry. I know you know I am a sincere person. From the bottom of my heart, I'm sorry. I understand.)
A giggling Charice also answered questions about her alleged relationship with X-Factor's AKA JAM member Alyssa Quijano.
She said Quijano is an "inspiration."
'She's a very special person,' says Charice of Alyssa Quijano
She’s a very special person." (I can only say that she's an inspiration in my life. She is one of the people I get strength from. She's a very special person.)
When asked whether Quijano is one of the causes of conflict between her and her family, Charice said her family didn't know Quijano well. She also shrugged off reports they have eloped.
Charice said her revelation marks a new chapter in her life.
Life is too short to play games. Just be free... This is it! New chapter. Welcome, welcome to my crazy life. Enjoy the ride." (To other people my age, who are going through the same thing, always be true to yourselves. We know who we are.)
