WATCH: Edu Manzano, Jun Sabayton in hilarious ad spoofing fantaseryes

MANILA, Philippines – In what seems to be an epic-looking movie, Edu Manzano is a swash-buckling warrior fighting against hordes of netherworld creatures to defend a damsel in distress.

Genre-defying and groundbreaking? Not so, as told by his horned enemy (Jun Sabayton) who has had enough of it.

"Limampung sequel na tayo naglalaban-laban! Nakakasawa na!" Jun exclaims.

(We've been doing the same fight for 50 sequels now! I'm so sick of it!)

"Sa sobrang tagal, naging senior citizen ka na, at ang mga leading lady mo, pabata nang pabata.

(It's been too long. Look – you're now a senior citizen, and your leading ladies are getting younger.)

At one point, it becomes clear that Jun's monologue is about his frustrations about over-stretched fantasy movie franchises: "Pointless naman talaga… dahil paulit-ulit lang ang mga plot natin! Kaya para mas magmukhang bago, nagsanib-puwersa na lang ang mga ibang fantasy show."

(This is pointless… just like our recycled plots. To make our films seem fresh, we've mashed up various fantasy shows.)

"At kahit gaanong karaming kalaban ang tatapat sa'yo, sigurado ako, mag-goglow na naman 'yang espada mo!"

(But no matter how many villains fight you, I'm sure your sword will glow again!)

Fed up, Jun strips off his costume and prosthetics – down to his briefs.

Toward the end, it becomes apparent that the parody is actually an advertisement (posted on agency Leo Burnett Manila's Facebook page) for the Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival, which runs from August 5 to 14. (READ: Cinemalaya 2016: 9 entries, what to watch)
