GMA 7 announces temporary suspension of entertainment program production

MANILA, Philippines – GMA 7 announced on Saturday, March 14 that the network will temporarily suspend the production of its network entertainment shows following the declaration of a community quarantine in Metro Manila. 

"In accordance, however, with the government's declaration of a community quarantine in Metro Manila and as part of the measures that the Network is doing to ensure the safety and well-being of its talents, production teams, employees, their families as well as the general public, GMA will be temporarily suspending the production of Network-produced entertainment programs," the TV station said in a statement.

"The Network has also advised its blocktimers and co-producers to comply with the community quarantine guidelines. GMA will continue to air fresh, pre-taped episodes of some shows and thereafter, a new programming line-up is in store for all Kapuso viewers in the coming days."

The network assured that viewers and audience can still get updates from its news programs, radio stations, and online platforms.  

Rival station ABS-CBN announced on Friday, March 13 that it will also temporarily halt production of its shows and will be replaced with a line up of its old shows such as On The Wings of Love and 100 Days to Heaven.

Both networks have earlier announced the suspension m live studio audience on its shows. 

President Rodrigo Duterte announced on Thursday, March 12 that Metro Manila will be on a lockdown beginning Saturday, March 15, to stem the spread of COVID-19 which has killed 8 people in the country as of Saturday

On Saturday, it was announced that Metro Manila will be placed under curfew from 8 pm to 5 am beginning Sunday, March 15 to coincide with the lockdown. The Metro Manila mayors have urged establishments such as malls to temporarily close prevent the spread of the new virus. – Rappler.com
