MANILA, Philippines – Looks like things are better between actress Heart Evangelista and her mother, Cecile Ongpauco.
On Monday, August 25, Heart posted a photo of them together with her sister.
Heart also posted a screengrab of her father Rey’s message to her on Saturday, August 23.
"To my dad...thank you for loving me the way you do... my perfect morning," she wrote.
The photos came out after the news that Heart was officially engaged to boyfriend Sen. Chiz Escudero. The two have been together since 2012.
Chiz proposed to Heart in his native province of Sorsogon on August 23, which was attended by their friends, including actresses Lovi Poe and Alessandra de Rossi.
Heart has been estranged from her parents since March 2013, after her parents came out expressing their disapproval of the relationship. Both of her parents accused the senator of being disrespectful and an alcoholic.
The actress, however, said that she will fight for the relationship, and has since moved away.
Heart and her father patched things up in July 2013, but it was only this year that she and her mother reconnected.
Chiz has two children from his ex-wife Cristine. According to an interview with the Inquirer, he has yet to secure an annulment from the Catholic Church.
In an April 2013 interview, Chiz said that his relationship with Heart can be compared to that of William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet.
"Akala ko yung mga kwento na bawal na pag-ibig, bawal umibig na mas mayaman, at Romeo and Juliet sa libro at sine lamang. Sana sa inyo na lang nangyari, hindi na lang sa akin," he told reporters.
(I thought stories of forbidden love, preventing you from loving wealthier women, like Romeo and Juliet, only exists in books and movies. I wish this had happened to you, instead of me).
In an interview with Rappler, Heart said that what made her fight for the relationship was that Chiz was "brave" and knows what he is doing.
"This guy that I'm with, he's brave, he stands for what's right, he knows he loves me, and he doesn't even doubt that we wouldn't make it out of this situation and he stood by my side. I think that's why it's worth fighting for," she said. – Rappler.com
