Rappler Talk: Binisaya 2020 – The role of regional cinema
In this Rappler Talk, we will discuss the challenges of producing a film festival for local cinema, and what it’s like producing non-Tagalog films in today’s context

Outside of Metro Manila, filmmakers across the country are telling their stories in their own languages through cinema.

The Binisaya Film Festival, which is happening online this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, has been pushing local filmmakers to tell their stories not only from areas in Cebu but across the country. It now includes a category for filmmakers from other countries.

Bisaya filmmakers have been aggressive in getting their stories on international and national film festivals.

Joining the discussion are the organizers of the Binisaya Film Festival:

  • Keith Deligero, filmmaker
  • Danielle Aballe-de los Reyes, film producer
  • Idden de los Reyes, cinematographer
  • Remton Zuasola, filmmaker

In this Rappler Talk, we will discuss the challenges of producing a film festival for local cinema, and what it’s like producing non-Tagalog films in today’s context.
