Lauren Young on acting opposite sister Megan Young in ‘MariMar'

MANILA, Philippines – Lauren Young said that she loves playing an antagonist opposite sister Megan Young in the modern remake of MariMar

In an interview with reporters during the show's press conference, Monday, August 17, Lauren said the advantage is that she and Megan already have great rapport especially when doing their confrontation scenes.

"I think it’s easier to be a kontrabida when your sister is the one who is in front of you, because for two characters to be able to work so well together, you have to have that relationship, you have to have that chemistry. And I think iyon 'yung advantage namin bilang magkapatid, you have to have this bond," Lauren said.

Lauren also said that Megan does not mind if she has to hurt her since the role requires it. In MariMar, Lauren plays Antonia Santibañez, the daughter of Angelika Santibañez, who always wants attention.

"Oo okay lang iyan sa kanya... As much as possible, ako kung pwedeng totoo gawin na lang nating totoo kasi mas maganda siyang tingnan on TV."

(Yes, she's okay with it. As much as possible, if we could really do it, we will do it, because it looks better on TV.)

"But then, there are certain instances siguro na yung mga iba, ayaw nila na sinasaktan sila, so you have to respect that also. (There are others, they don't want you to hurt them, so you have to respect that also.)

“There are ways para dayain (fake it) to make someone comfortable.

“But so far naman, nung nag-taping kami, ilang beses siyang binatukan ni Tita Jane [Jaclyn Jose], wala siyang reklamo.”

(But so far, during the taping, she was hurt many time by Tita Jane [Jaclyn Jose], and she did not complain.)

For the role of Antonia, Lauren said it will be a different type of antagonist compared ot her past roles wherein she was more subtle.

"Ito siguro, it will be the other way around – in your face."

“Well, I didn’t ever think that my sister and I would end up in the same station again this time too soon.

"So, it wasn’t really in my plan yet. But then, you know, better now than never naman, di ba?” she said.

Lauren said that she is happy for her sister's big break.

"I’m very happy for her. But the reality is she has big shoes to fill and, you know, she’s been working very, very hard and I’m here to support her all the way,” she said.

Based on the hit TV show starring Thalia, MariMar is the story of MariMar Perez (Megan) a kind-hearted woman who falls in love with Sergio Santibañez (Tom Rodriguez) and experiences the ups and down of true love.
