Madrigals, Swingle Singers at CCP

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Madrigal Singers and the international vocal group the Swingle Singers will perform at the Cultural Center of the Philippines in two concerts billed, “Two for the Gold."

A rare event featuring the best of a cappella music and world-class artistry, the concerts will be held on Saturday, September 7, 7pm, and Sunday, September 8, 5pm, at the CCP's Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo (Main Theater).

Both ensembles celebrate their 50th anniversary with this two-night event.

The late National Artist for Music Professor Andrea O. Veneracion founded the Philippine Madrigal Singers 50 years ago, with her steadfast vision of promoting vocal artistry among a people known for their talent in singing.

The Madz has been at the forefront of the local and international choral scene this year, as one of the world’s winningest choirs, noted as UNESCO Artists of Peace, and as the World’s Best Choir by the BrandLaureate Awards.

More importantly, the Madz is instrumental in producing more than 60 choirs all over the world, creating a network of choirs popularly known as the Madz Et. Al.

In Europe, American-born musician Ward Swingle formed the legendary Swingle Singers. This group has earned acclaim for its unique fusion of baroque jazz, and also as a contemporary a cappella phenomenon, with 5 Grammy awards to date.
