Box office update: MMFF 2014 movies hit P854M-mark

MANILA, Philippines – The Metro Manila Film Festival has reached the P800 million mark, with the romantic comedy English Only Please replacing Kubot: The Aswang Chronicles 2 in the top 4 of the in terms of earnings.

Metro Manila Development Authority chairman Francis Tolentino confirmed in a text message to Rappler that as of January 4, the MMFF has taken in a total of P854 million for all 8 films.

English Only Please, starring Derek Ramsay and Jennylyn Mercado, won a number of awards at the Metro Manila Film Festival Awards Night, including second Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Director. (READ: FULL LIST: Winners, MMFF 2014 awards night)

The exact figures of the top 4 box office earners have not been disclosed. But a report from The Buzz said that The Amazing Praybeyt Benjamin 2 earned P365 million, while Feng Shui 2 earned P195 million as of 1 pm, January 4.

Last December 26, Tolentino said that all 8 films earned at least P182 million in the first days of the festival.

The festival will end on January 7. –
