Whose side is your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man on – Captain America or Iron Man?

MANILA, Philippines (3rd UPDATE) – This is not a drill: Spider-Man is indeed going to appear in Captain America: Civil War!

The big reveal, showing Spider-Man in action, has been made in a brand-new trailer for the upcoming Marvel film, which sees a division of the Avengers into two factions. Captain America and Iron Man are pitted against each other due to disagreement over a so-called Superhuman Registration Act.

There’s more mayhem in the footage previewed in the new trailer, but everything seems to pale in comparison with one scene. Tony Stark shouts, “Underroos!” and then Spidey takes Cap’s shield with his web.

It appears also that Spidey is wearing a suit that’s a throwback to the 1967 cartoon series, as The Verge notes, “The costume’s red and blues are bright and flat, and the eyes animate like a cartoon. Even the small details match, like how the blue underarm patch ends at the elbow joint and the red boot stops at the calf.”

Even though he’s a Marvel hero, your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man has long been the licensed property of Sony Pictures. But now, it appears that Sony and Marvel Studios (a subsidiary of Walt Disney Studios) have really made good on their deal to have Spidey in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Now, it will be quite the epic face-off between Tony Stark and Steve Rogers.

Bob Iger, the chairman and CEO of the Walt Disney Company said in a Marvel news release, “Spider-Man is one of Marvel’s great characters, beloved around the world. We’re thrilled to work with Sony Pictures to bring the iconic web-slinger into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which opens up fantastic new opportunities for storytelling and franchise building.”

In the same release, Doug Belgrad, the president of the Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group, added, “Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios share a love for the characters in the Spider-Man universe and have a long, successful history of working together. This new level of collaboration is the perfect way to take Peter Parker’s story into the future.”

A new Peter Parker was also unveiled in June 2015: Tom Holland, who had taken over the role from his fellow British actor, Andrew Garfield. According to reports, the actor is expected to play the iconic hero in Civil War prior to the 2017 reboot of the Spider-Man films. (READ: Tom Holland cast as the new Spider-Man)
