WATCH: Cyclops discovers his abilities in new ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ clip
Meet the young Scott Summers, aka Cyclops, played by Tye Sheridan

MANILA, Philippines – We saw an origin story in X-Men: First Class, with the young Professor X and Magneto – set in the swinging ’60s. Then in Days of Future Past, things got a little bit more perplexing with some time travel involved – between a bleak future and the groovy but politically volatile ’70s. Now, in the latest X-Men film, Apocalypse, we get to meet a whole new generation another decade ahead.

We get to refamiliarize ourselves with Scott Summers aka Cyclops, a role originally played by James Marsden, through up-and-coming actor Tye Sheridan (Tree of Life and the upcoming Ready Player One film adaptation).

In earlier trailers, we already saw him in control of his optic blast, but in a recently released clip at a blue carpet event and fan screening in London, we get to see him struggling with his unwieldy ability.

The Scott we see here is a high schooler. In the middle of a lecture discussing the havoc that Magneto had wrought in Days of Future Past, he seems to feel some discomfort with his eyes, and a jock classmate construes this as “winking at [his] girl.”

“I guess you look old enough to be her father,” he dares to answer back.

Scott excuses himself to the bathroom, and there, the tough athlete confronts him.

Watch the clip above to see what happens and let us know about what you think of Tye Sheridan’s Cyclops in the comments.
