MANILA, Philippines – Remember those feels you got from Eleanor & Park’s heart-tugging story back in 2013? Well, get those hearts ready once again, because the best-selling young adult novel is back – but now as a movie.
Picturestart has aquired the film rights to Rainbow Rowell’s debut novel, and will be producing alongside Plan B and the author herself, who will also be writing the script.
“This book is very close to my heart, and I’ve always felt very cautious about adapting it,” Rowell shared during an interview with Deadline.
“But everyone at Picturestart and Plan B has so much respect for the story and the characters. I really feel like I couldn’t have found a better group of people to trust with Park and Eleanor — and I can’t wait to see this project come to life,” she added.
Eleanor & Park is set in Nebraska in 1986 and tells the story of two misfit teens as they discover together the awkward high school experience of first love, genuinely connecting through their love of comic books and mix tapes.
The book, which has sold more than 1 million copies so far, has been published in 41 languages and garnered recognition from Printz Honor, Goodreads, and the New York Times.
Rowell is also the writer behind fellow young adult bestsellers, Fangirl, Landline, and Carry On. – Rappler.com
