Intermezzo in crime thriller 'OTJ' filmed two days with multiple angles (in the style but not spirit of porn)

MANILA, Philippines – In the much anticipated crime thriller “OTJ (On the Job),” Shaina Magdayao is sure to surprise many with her sizzling lovemaking scene with Piolo Pascual.

Because erotic scenes are said to be a technical challenge, celebrated “indie” director Erik Matti took two days to shoot this scene from various angles, although not necesarily in the technically voyeuristic tradition of porn.

This is Shaina’s first love scene of this scope, let’s just say. After all, this is the big screen. It’s only fitting to make such a splash.

‘Praning’

Shaina admits being uncomfortable in the first day of shooting.

It was Piolo who said he will take care of her.

“I was so nervous doing the scene,” said the young star. She felt especially “praning” when Direk Erik said he needed two days.

This wasn’t like Hitchcock’s fashion of dominating his actors. Direk Erik simply needed enough time to fulfill the technical requirements of this scene.

“Akala ko madali lang, hindi naman pala,” said Shaina. (I thought it was easy. Not so.)

“Kukunan daw niya [Direk Erik] sa iba’t ibang anggulo ang love scene namin ni Piolo.” (Translation in second paragraph of this piece.)

They do this a lot in porn, as we noted, but here, the primary consideration was technical.

“Totoong uncomfortable kasi alam ko na maraming tao sa set, tapos ‘yung ilaw, yung camera crane,” said Shaina.

(It’s really uncomfortable because there were too many people on the set, then the lights, the camera crane.)

“It’s too much to take.

But when they finally filmed this scene, it was just Shaina and Piolo and the director and cinematographer.

“He knew na kinakabahan ako [that I was nervous] and he wanted me to be okay so that the shoot will go smoothly.”

On the second day, mas okey na ang feeling ko. Wala na akong kaba. Alam ko naman that the scenes will be safe and hindi bastos [ang pag]lalabas.”

Is this the beginining of a new image for Shaina?

“I don’t know. Depende kasi iyon sa [It depends on the] project.

“I only did this film kasi alam kong maganda siya and it’s my chance to work with Direk Erik and, of course, Piolo.

“Mag-asawa kasi kami rito sa movie. (We’re husband and wife in this movie.)

“At least maipagmamalaki ko na naging misis ako ni Papa P sa isang pelikula.”

(At least I can say with pride that I became Papa P’s wife in one movie.)

“Hindi naman ako nagkamali [I chose the right project], because ‘On the Job’ went to Cannes and it won awards at the Puchon International Film Festival in South Korea.

“I am so proud to have been part of this movie.”

BRINGING CHEER, GOODWILL. Piolo Pascual brings out the good side of celebrity, holds symposium

The cast of the film fanned out across the country recently to promote their movie. Joel Torre and fellow Ilonggo, Direk Erik, were in Bacolod, and Gerald Anderson and Dawn JImenez were in Cebu.

Piolo happened to be in Pampanga at the height of the monsoon rains, but carried on his part to promote the film, and thus provide cheer and lift people’s spirits amid the uncertainty and tragedy in the storm’s wake.

The celebrated actor-singer held a symposium at Angeles University Foundation and also led a mall show at Marquee Mall Pampanga.

‘OTJ’ will be shown in cinemas on Wednesday, August 28.
