Shirtless Efron, Grumpy Cat: 2014 MTV Movie Awards highlights
Great moments from the show, including a none-too-pleased Grumpy Cat, Zac Efron's glistening chest, and a 'Monster' performance from Eminem and Rihanna

MANILA, Philippines – Whether you were following the action on Twitter or discussing with friends over lunch, the MTV Movie Awards show was the talk of the town today, April 14.

The awards show is known for its decidedly less serious vibe, and celebrities who attend often gamely participate in the evening’s gimmicks.

There were several memorable moments from the show, but our top 5 include a little visit from Grumpy Cat, one major performance, and of course, Zac Efron’s shirtless turn onstage.

1. Shirtless Zac Efron

What better way to accept the award for Best Shirtless Performance than – well, shirtless? Zac Efron beat out Chris Hemsworth, Sam Claflin, Leonardo diCaprio, and Jennifer Aniston for the award, for his work in That Awkward Moment.

Prior to that, he had promised fans via Twitter that if he won, he’d accept the award shirtless. And we’ve also got Rita Ora to thank for getting the party started there – she helped Zac take it off.

2. Grumpy Cat on the red carpet and at the show

Internet icon Grumpy Cat, famous for his perpetually displeased expression, was also a guest at the show, and was also wearing what appeared to be Pharell’s now-infamous brown hat.

If you’ve ever felt like not smiling along with the rest of the world (or if it’s just one of those days), then Grumpy Cat is your choice Internet figure.

MTV tweeted a photo of Grumpy Cat sleeping the Movie Awards away, too. Not exciting enough, probably?

3. The Fault in Our Stars exclusive clip debut

Stars Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort introduced a new clip from their highly anticipated movie The Fault in Our Stars, about two teenagers finding love in the midst of doubt, sickness, and the very real possibility of impending death.

See if this doesn’t make your head spin: in Divergent, Ansel Elgort played Caleb, the brother of Shailene’s Tris, and they played lovers in The Fault in Our Stars. In Divergent, Miles Teller played Peter, who antagonized Tris – but they were an on-screen item in The Spectacular Now and were actually nominated for Best Kiss! They lost, however, to Jennifer Aniston, Emma Roberts, and Will Poulter (We’re the Millers).

4. A heartfelt tribute to Paul Walker

Fast & Furious star Jordana Brewster led the video tribute to her former co-star Paul Walker, who died in a car crash in November 2013.

“He was humble, he thought about others…for Paul, everyday was an adventure to be tackled, and he wanted to make a difference in this world,” she said.

Her words were followed by a montage of clips from Paul’s film career.

5. Rihanna and Eminem’s “Monster” performance

The twosome, who previously collaborated on mega hit “Love the Way You Lie,” performed their song “The Monster” together onstage.

Orlando Bloom introduced the duo.

As expected, the performance was intense, but another memorable component of the performance was Rihanna’s awesome outfit – a super short dress, oversized white jacket and headgear that read, “FEAR.”
