Amazing Spider-Man 2 hits P112.6M on first 2 days
MANILA, Philippines – Everyone's friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is bringing in crowds to movie theaters across the country, with P112.6 million earned by The Amazing Spider-Man 2 across its first two days, from April 30 to May 1.
Victor R. Cabrera, managing director of Columbia Pictures Industries Inc, said this was the country's biggest all-time first two days' gross. The new record unhinges Iron Man 3, which grossed P110.9 million. The movie's earnings took off with a P49.43 million infusion as the highest opening day record for 2014 so far.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has an overseas gross of more than US$155 million over a two-week period, and is expected to claim an opening of $100 million in the US this weekend. (READ: 'The Amazing Spiderman-2 review: The enemy within)
In the film, Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield) learns to enjoy the life of being Spider-Man, though it does come with a price. Only Spider-Man can protect New York from the many villains that threaten it, and sacrifices in his personal life have to be made to protect those he loves.
