Tale as old as time? True as it can be. Bill Condon is set to direct the upcoming film

MANILA, Philippines – The tale as old as time is returning to cinemas as Disney is producing a live-action version of the cinematic classic Beauty and the Beast, reports Variety.

After the recent success of Maleficent, Disney is going full steam ahead with adaptations of some of the cartoons that made the corporation a household name.

There will be a live-action Cinderella to be played by Downton Abbey’s Lily James and director Jon Favreau – who directed the first two Iron Man films – is reportedly behind directing a revamp of The Jungle Book.

Variety says that Bill Condon will be the director for the new Beauty and the Beast. Condon’s résumé includes directing the last two parts of The Twilight SagaBreaking Dawn 1 and 2. Condon is also the director behind the award-winning adaptation of Broadway musical Dreamgirls.

As of now there are no further casting reports for the reboot of Beauty and the Beast.

Since its release in 1991, there have been multiple attempts by Tinseltown to carry on the legacy Disney left behind.

In 2011, there was the modern-day spin on the film with Beastly, which starred beastly Alex Pettyfer opposite beauty Vanessa Hudgens. Audiences also witnessed the creation of the hit television series Beauty and the Beast by the CW in 2012 starring Smallville alumna Kristin Kreuk.

As for this new influx of Disney films… Be our guest, Disney, be our guest. –Rappler.com
