Movies playing this week: Apes, aliens and music
MANILA, Philippines – Heading to to the cinemas this coming weekend? Here’s the list of movies showing this week.
A group of genetically evolved apes are threatened by human survivors of a plague, as seen in the last movie. Caesar (Andy Serkis) meets with Malcolm (Jason Clarke) as they try to stop a possible war which will determine who survives – apes or men.
Greta (Keira Knightley) and boyfriend Dave (Adam Levine) have been together since college as songwriting partners. They travel to New York, where Dave gets a deal with a recording label. His newfound fame, however, gets in the way of their relationship. Greta meets Dan (Mark Ruffalo), a record-label executive fired from his job while singing at a bar. Together, they form a partnership and produce an unexpected piece of work.
Earth to Echo
Friends Tuck, Munch, and Alex are about to go their separate ways due to a highway construction causing problems in their area. But days before they leave, they are surprised to meet an alien stranded on Earth. Together with another friend Emma, they come together to bring the alien back home.
A young Chinese immigrant named Jason is in love with his girlfriend named Skye, and wants to marry her. His mother however is against the match and introduces him to a matchmaker, who in return presents a girl name May Ling. Jason is forced to make a decision between two cultures, and between the living and the dead.
A thug named Johnny (Allen Dizon), brings in another wife (Jackie Rice) despite having two wives (Jean Garcia and Sunshine Dizon). Adding to the conflict is the tension between Johnny and the barangay authorities, and a looming confrontation between the illegal residents of Sitio Kamkam and the local government.
Frank Zito (Elijah Wood) is a mentally disturbed man, who took over his family’s mannequin business and is haunted by his mother’s past. He meets a woman name Anna and soon falls in love with her, only to discover that she has a boyfriend. Anna later discover’s Frank’s deadly secret, which ends in tragedy.
When the Lights Went Out
Based on a series of events in 1974, the movie tells the story of the Maynard family who moves into their dream house only to discover that it also houses a violent poltergeist. – Rappler.com
