MANILA, Philippines – It may look steamy, but the stars say that filming the love scenes in the 50 Shades of Grey movie isn’t as smooth or as comfortable as it looks.

“It’s not, like, a romantic situation,” Dakota said during her interview on the Today show. “It’s more, like, technical and choreographed and less … it’s more of a task.”

Trust, says Jamie, was quite important as the situation was far from comfortable. “…we got ourselves into situations that don’t feel that sort of natural and they’re not that easy and you need to have the trust there,” he said.

The actors appeared on the Today show to talk about the film and the release of the trailer, which was apparently too risqué to be shown completely on morning TV. A shorter version, which does not include the scenes where Ana Steele is blindfolded and tied up, was played instead. (READ: Beyonce releases ’50 Shades of Grey’ teaser)

In the movie, Christian Grey is an enigmatic, powerful businessman who pursues Anastasia Steele, a sweet, virginal college fresh grad. He later introduces her to his rather kinky sexual preferences, asking her to enter into a dominant-submissive sexual relationship.

But in real life, Jamie Dornan is an up-and-coming actor navigating his first big Hollywood break as a male lead in a high-profile movie, while Dakota Johnson is used to being in the limelight – she’s the daughter of Don Johnson (Nash Bridges) and Melanie Griffith (Working Girl).

Here’s what Dakota said when asked if she’d want her parents to watch her in the movie:

“I think that probably, no,” says Dakota. “If it were them doing the movie, I wouldn’t wanna see that!”

And how did Jamie react when he was told that he won the role of Christian?

“It was like 2 o’clock in the morning…I was asleep pretty soon after I found out, it wasn’t like in a normal time zone where I’d go like, party and stuff. My heavily pregnant wife was downstairs sleeping, so I just sort of joined her in bed and went to sleep,” said Jamie. (READ: ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ unveils new Christian Grey photo)

Jamie replaced Sons of Anarchy actor Charlie Hunnam, who dropped out weeks after being cast in the lead role. Recently, Charlie told media that he still supported the material even though he was no longer in the movie, and that he thought Jamie would do just fine
