'Easily the hardest labor and toughest grind mentally and physically of my entire career,' says Dwayne Johnson

Hollywood action star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson confirmed the highly-anticipated DC movie Black Adam has finished filming.

In an Instagram post on Friday, July 16, Johnson shared a three-minute video thanking the cast and crew during their last day of shooting. “I can’t thank you enough from the bottom of my heart for this experience. This has been once in a lifetime for me… So many of you have been my family for years. Years and years now that we’ve worked closely together,” Johnson can be heard saying in the clip.

Aside from saying that Black Adam is a “career definer” for him, Johnson also opened up about how hard the whole production process was.

“It has been my true honor to go shoulder to shoulder with over 1,000 brilliant and hungry crew of filmmakers and storytellers to bring the antihero known as Black Adam to life. This has been one for the ages and easily the hardest labor and toughest grind mentally and physically of my entire career,” he captioned his post.

He added, “Worth. Every. Second. Love you all, thank you all. And I’ll see you down the road… The hierarchy of power in the DC Universe is changing.”

Prior to their last week of production, Johnson has also uploaded several photos from their shoot.

“If you know the comic mythology of BLACK ADAM, then you know, his rage comes from pain. His pain comes from the loss of his wife and children. He is now the most unstoppable force in the DC Universe or ANY endgame universe,” he said in one of his posts.

The 49-year-old actor also revealed that his conditioning for the character “has been relentless.” “Hardest of my career because I’ve had to maintain this physical look for months and had to peak in my final week – but our collective goal is to raise the bar with Black Adam.”

He added, “To deliver the antihero you’ve been waiting for and you deserve.”

Johnson has been involved in the development of Black Adam for more than a decade. “That gives you an idea of how passionate I am with this project… In 2008 was when we first started talking about this,” he said in one of his Instagram videos.

The filming for Black Adam was originally scheduled for early 2020 but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In August 2020, DC released a concept art teaser for the film, narrated by Johnson. The character of Black Adam is a known nemesis of Captain Marvel/Shazam in the comics.

Black Adam also stars Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, Sarah Shahi as Isis, Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone, and Pierce Brosnan as Doctor Fate. Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia of Seven Bucks Productions are producing with Beau Flynn of FlynnPicture Co.
