Marvel dropped on Sunday, April 4, a new trailer for the long-awaited Black Widow, starring Scarlett Johansson.
The movie, which explores the origins of Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow, had been set for a late April 2020 release in the Philippines. This was postponed because of the coronavirus pandemic. The movie is now set to premiere in July 2021, in theaters and on Disney’s streaming platform, Disney+.
In the trailer, viewers see flashbacks of Natasha as an Avenger, as she explains that she’d made “mistakes” in the past. “I’m done running from my past,” the titular character says.
Natasha or Black Widow is one of the original Avengers, a group of superheroes that band together to save earth from both external and internal threats. The group and its members, as well as other characters belonging to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, were featured in the first 3 phases of the shared universe. The 3 phases are collectively termed the “Infinity Saga.”
The character’s last appearance in the MCU was in Avengers: End Game, where the Avengers and their allies worked together to defeat Thanos, a supervillain who had wiped out half of the universe’s population through the Inifnity Gauntlet. Thanos’ actions were undone but at great expense – several key members of the Avengers bid farewell, including Natasha.
Natasha was first introduced in 2010’s Iron Man 2.
A new Philippine release date has yet to be announced. Disney+ is not available in the Philippines. – Rappler.com
