Anya Taylor-Joy, Jack Black, Chris Pratt join ‘Super Mario Bros.’ film


The upcoming animated film will have Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Black as Bowser, Pratt as Mario, and Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong

The upcoming animated Super Mario Bros. film is getting a star-studded voice cast that includes Queen’s Gambit star Anya Taylor-Joy, School of Rock’s Jack Black, Guardians of the Galaxy lead Chris Pratt, and more.

According to a Variety report, Pratt will be starring as the titular Italian plumber Mario, alongside Charlie Day (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Horrible Bosses), who will be playing Mario’s plumber brother Luigi. Black will be voicing main antagonist Bowser, the supervillain turtle known to have captured damsel-in-distress Princess Peach, as voiced by Taylor-Joy.

Seth Rogen will be lending his voice to character Donkey Kong, while Keegan-Michael Key will be voicing Toad. Fred Armisen will portray Cranky Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson will be Kamek, and Sebastian Maniscalco will voice Spike.

The upcoming Universal Pictures film is based on the popular Japanese Nintendo game franchise created by Shigeru Miyamoto and Gunpei Yokoi in 1983. It will be directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic (Teen Titans Go!), and written by Matthew Fogel (The Lego Movie 2, Minions: The Rise of Gru). Illumination’s Chris Meledandri is producing with Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto.

Super Mario Bros. is slated for a December 21, 2022 theatrical release. – Rappler.com
