DaangDokyu extends run for ‘Martial Law, Never Again’ films

Five documentaries that cover the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos’ Martial Law – and the injustices that continued after it – will continue streaming for at least 3 more days, DaangDokyu festival organizers said early Tuesday, September 22.

“We apologize for the glitch. Our system has been overwhelmed (which also means we got your support and we thank you!). Because of this, we are extending the run of Martial Law, Never Again up to September 23, 12MN,” organizers said in a Facebook post.

The “Martial Law, Never Again” lineup includes Marcos: A Malignant Spirit, Mendiola Massacre, A Rustling of Leaves: Inside the Philippine Revolution, Alunsina, and Imelda.

Several of the films in the lineup will also be screened again during the festival proper. The schedules are:

• Marcos, the Malignant Spirit – October 9-15
• Mendiola Massacre – October 9-15
• A Rustling of Leaves: Inside the Philippine Revolution – October 9-15
• Alunsina – October 30-November 5

DaangDokyu highlights documentaries from the early days of Philippine cinema and television to the newest documentaries. It’s spearheaded by filmmakers themselves and “aims to reach a broader audience for documentaries and offer the ‘docu way’ to take stock of how we are as a nation and where we are headed.”

The festival is usually held at a physical space but because of the coronavirus pandemic, it has migrated exclusively online. The festival also includes panel discussions and masterclasses with the filmmakers.
