The official main trailer for Dune is out nearly a year after Warner Bros. first gave viewers a glimpse of the upcoming film, set for an October 22 worldwide release.

Dune, which will be split into two parts, follows the story of Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding. He must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people.

The three-minute, action-packed trailer focuses on Paul, as he is muddled by visions of a girl in their newly relocated homeworld, Arrakis. The trailer also focuses on the brutality of House Harkonnen against the native people of Arrakis, the Fremen.

Other characters seen in the trailer are Gurney, Duncan Idaho, Beast Rabban, and the iconic sandworm.

Announced in 2016, the film is produced by Legendary Pictures and will be distributed by Warner Bros.

Directing this long-awaited space epic is Dennis Villenueve, director of other sci-fi hits such as Blade Runner 2049 and Arrival. Co-writing the screenplay are John Spaiths and Eric Roth.

The movie stars Timothée Chalamet as the hero-to-be Paul, and Zendaya as the powerful Fremen warrior Chani.

Also in the film is Dave Bautista as Beast Rabban, one of the most cruel members of House Harkonnen. The cast likewise includes Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, and Jason Momoa, who play Lady Jessica, Leto Atreides, and Duncan Idaho, respectively.

The film is based on the popular sci-fi novel Dune, written by Frank Herbert in 1965. The novel went on to spawn numerous prequels and sequels. It also inspired numerous other famous works from games to films such as Star Wars, Star Trek, and Warhammer 40,000.

The film is scheduled to open soon in Philippine cinemas from Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary. – Adrian Soriano/Rappler.com
