WATCH: The first star-studded 'Dune' trailer is all sorts of epic

The first official trailer for the highly-awaited blockbuster Dune was released early Thursday, September 9, and it's just as epic and thrilling as expected.

The 3-minute action-packed and emotionally-charged trailer introduces us to the gifted young hero Paul Atreides' (Timothée Chalamet), and his mission to protect his family and his people. As he struggles with a destiny he can't seem to grasp yet, Paul has to travel to the most dangerous planet to battle with evil forces, who are also set to claim a precious resource that could unleash humanity's greatest potential.

The film, an adaptation of Frank Herbert’s best-selling novel, packs a star-studded Hollywood cast: Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Dave Bautista, Zendaya, Jason Momoa, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Stephen McKinley Henderson, David Dastmalchian, Chang Chen, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, Charlotte Rampling, and Javier Bardem.  

Dune, which was filmed in Hungary and Jordan, is directed by Oscar-nominated Denis Villeneuve (Arrival, Blade Runner 2049). The screenplay was also written by Villeneuve, alongside Jon Spaihts and Eric Roth. Villeneuve also produced the film with Mary Parent, Cale Boyter, and Joe Caracciolo, Jr. 

Dune is set for a January 2021 release in the Philippines. –
