Netflix has announced the star-studded roster for upcoming comedy film Don’t Look Up, a project led by Anchorman director and screenwriter Adam McKay.
On Wednesday, October 14, Netflix revealed in a tweet that the all-star cast includes Leonardo DiCaprio, Cate Blanchett, Ariana Grande, Kid Cudi, and Matthew Perry. Earlier this year, it was also announced that Jennifer Lawrence signed on to do the project.
Other stars include Jonah Hill, Himesh Patel, Timothée Chalamet, Meryl Streep, Tomer Sisley, and Rob Morgan.
Don’t Look Up focuses on two astronomers who have the herculean task of warning the world of an asteroid on its course to destroy Earth.
Don’t Look Up is not McKay’s first big-name comedy project. He was behind the Anchorman saga, Daddy’s Home, and Talladega Nights starring Will Ferrell.
McKay also has dramatic work under his belt, with his 2016 film The Big Short winning the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay. In 2018, McKay released Vice, a biopic focused on the life of former United States Vice President Dick Chaney. During an interview with Insider, he says the heavy themes of Vice pushed him to making Don’t Look Up a satirical comedy.
“I think, God almighty do we need laughter right now. It’s the only way I’m getting through this,” McKay told Insider.
Production on the film was supposed to begin in April but, because of COVID-19, was delayed to a later date. A release date has not been confirmed yet. – with reports from Zoe Andin/Rappler.com
