South Korean actor Kim Seon-ho is confirmed to make his movie acting debut in the film Sad Tropics.

According to a report by Soompi on Monday, November 1, production company NEW said that Kim’s previously announced casting in the film will remain unchanged.

“After much deliberation, the producers of Sad Tropics have decided to film the movie this year with actor Kim Seon-ho,” the company was quoted as saying.

First announced in September, Sad Tropics centers around a Filipino-Korean aspiring boxer who goes to South Korea to look for his father who abandoned him. The movie will be directed by Park Hoon-jung (New World, V.I.P), with actress Go Ara in talks to star alongside Kim.

Sad Tropics also marks Kim’s first major project after being involved in a controversy with his ex-girlfriend in October.

Kim issued an apology after a netizen, who turned out to be his ex-girlfriend, claimed in an online community that a rising actor had gaslighted her and forced her to terminate her pregnancy when they were still dating.

“I apologize for disappointing all of those who trusted and supported me until the end,” Kim said then.

Following the controversy, various companies issued withdrawals from their projects with Kim, including variety show 2 Days & 1 Night and upcoming movies 2 O’Clock Date and Dog Days.

Since then, South Korean celebrity website Dispatch released two articles, detailing an outline of key events that occurred between Kim and his ex-girlfriend’s relationship. Brands have started featuring Kim in their ads once again after the Dispatch reports showed that the alleged conversations between Kim and his ex-girlfriend contradict the initial accusations she had made towards the actor.

Aside from the recently concluded series Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha, Kim also appeared in the South Korean series Start Up and 100 Days, My Prince. – Rappler.com
