South Korean stars Gong Yoo and Park Bo-gum are teaming up for Seobok, an upcoming science fiction film about the first human clone.

According to a report from The Korean Herald, the film will feature the two actors as the leads. Gong Yoo portrays Ki-hun, an intelligence agent whose last mission will involve moving the clone Seo-bok (Park Bo-gum) to a safer location.

It is directed by Lee Yong-joo and is set for a December 2020 release.

“There are actually important emotional scenes in our movie, as well as parts where the audience can probably relax a bit. I also enjoyed filming these scenes,” Gong Yoo said in an online press conference.

“I decided to make it [Seo-bok] a male character since it could become a cliché movie if Seo-bok is a woman and there’s a romantic relationship,” director Lee Yong-joo said.

Gong Yoo also said that Lee took inspiration from the 1988 film Rain Man, which starred Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise.

“The director told us to use Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise’s relationship in Rain Man as our reference,” Gong Yoo said.

Despite a human clone being a key character, Lee explained that it was not his intention to craft a clone story. “The script began with my intention to write a story about human fear,” said Lee.

Gong Yoo is known for starring in films such as Train to Busan and The Age of Shadows, as well as TV series Coffee Prince and Guardian: The Lonely and Great God.

Park Bo-gum rose to prominence starring in the television drama Reply 1988, starring in other films and series like Hello Monster, Love in the Moonlight, and the recently-concluded Record of Youth. – with reports from Jericho Igdanes/Rappler.com
