MANILA, Philippines – Martika Ramirez Escobar’s Leonor Will Never Die has been nominated for best international film at the 2023 Spirit Awards.
The Spirit Awards is given by Film Independent, an American non-profit organization that supports indie filmmakers.
Leonor Will Never Die is competing in the same category against four other international films: Corsage by Marie Kreutzer, Joyland by Saim Sadiq, Return to Seoul by Davy Chou, and Saint Omer by Alice Diop.
The awards ceremony will be held on March 4, 2023 at the beach at Santa Monica Pier in California.
Leonor Will Never Die tells the story of Leonor Reyes, a faded screenwriter now struggling to pay the bills. In a bid to make ends meet, she returns to an unfinished script, but is sent into a coma after figuring in a freak accident. While in the coma, Leonor hovers between reality and fantasy, and she soon becomes part of her own incomplete script.
The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival 2022, where Martika was awarded the Special Jury Prize for Innovative Spirit.
It also won the Amplify Voices Award at the Toronto International Film Festival. – Rappler.com
