#HoldTheLine: Maria Ressa interviews ‘A Thousand Cuts’ director Ramona Diaz
Ressa will probe into Diaz’s creative process and personal values, and where she draws the line when making tough decisions

Since its launch at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2020, A Thousand Cuts, directed by Ramona Diaz, has been making the rounds and winning several awards, such as Best Documentary in the IFP Gotham Awards

The film was screened for 24 hours in the Philippines last June 2020 and garnered more than 230,000 views during its limited run. The film will return to the Philippines on March 13 through PBS Frontline – PBS’s long-running investigative program – and will be available for Filipinos to watch for free through the PBS website and YouTube channel.

The film has also been screened in countries such as Hong Kong, Netherlands, New Zealand and soon, the UK, for the Human Rights Watch Film Festival

Ramona Diaz is the third director to be featured in the #HoldTheLine Directors’ Series after Lana Wilson and Jeff Orlowski. Ressa and Diaz have been in around 70 panel discussions together because of A Thousand Cuts, but for the first time, Ressa will be interviewing Diaz herself.

In this episode, Ressa probes into Diaz’s creative process and personal values, and where she draws the line when making tough decisions.

Diaz is also known for documentaries such as: Imelda (2003), Don’t Stop Believin’: Every Man’s Journey (2013), and Motherland (2020).

The live recording happened on March 10 (Wednesday), 3 pm PST. Rappler+ members got to attend the recording and ask Diaz questions in a closed-door, members-only chat.
