#HoldTheLine: Maria Ressa talks to director Jeff Orlowski on his creative vision

In 2020, one of the top hard-hitting documentaries on Netflix was The Social Dilemma. Since its release, it has reached an estimated 100 million people, streaming in 190 countries.

The film introduces us to the Silicon valley professionals who changed the way we experience the internet. It explores the ethical questions of social media and its impact on individuals.

The film follows Tristan Harris, co-founder of the Center for Humane Technology who was previously featured on Rappler. It raises important questions about social media addiction that was crafted by design from large tech companies to keep people on their platforms.

For the next episode of the #HoldTheLine Directors Series, Maria Ressa interviews Jeff Orlowski, the director of The Social Dilemma. They talk about his film's vision, the creative process, and his experience as a documentary filmmaker covering tough topics.

Before The Social Dilemma, Orlowski had covered topics like climate change in his award-winning documentaries Chasing Ice and Chasing Coral. Orlowski is also the founder of Exposure Labs, a production company dedicated to creating films with impact. It was under this company that the 3 films were produced

The live recording of this interview was on March 3, 7:50 am PHT*. Rappler+ members got to attend this event live and accessed to the Live Chat session afterwards. It will be aired publicly at 7:00 pm PHT. – Rappler.com
