MANILA, Philippines – Crime thriller On the Job: The Missing 8 is the Philippines’ official entry to the 95th Academy Awards, set to take place in March 2023.

The Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) made the announcement on Facebook on Friday, September 30.  In their post, they said that the film would be entered under the Best International Feature category.

Once an international film is submitted to the Academy for consideration, it will be evaluated by a preliminary committee, which will produce a shortlist of 15 international feature films. Out of the shortlist, only five will be selected as nominees under Best International Feature.

Directed by Erik Matti and written by Michiko Yamamoto, On the Job: The Missing 8 is a sequel to the 2013 film On the Job.

In the film, John Arcilla plays Sisoy Salas, a journalist who is investigating the mysterious disappearances of his colleagues. It also follows the story of an inmate, Roman Rubio (Dennis Trillo), who, as a hitman, is temporarily freed from prison to perform assassinations.

It premiered at the Venice International Film Festival in September 2021, with Arcilla bringing home the Best Actor Volpi Cup in a historic win. At the same time, it was released along with the first film as a miniseries on HBO Go. – Rappler.com
