WATCH: SpongeBob and friends at the beach in new 'SpongeBob' trailer

MANILA, Philippines – What happens when SpongeBob SquarePants and friends leave Bikini Bottom and blast onto the beach?

The self-aware cartoon famous for jokes of every shade is finally hitting the big screen again – and here’s a look at the film, SpongeBob: Sponge Out of Water, due out in 2015, which also stars Antonio Banderas. Tom Kenny, Clancy Brown, Rodger Bumpass, Bill Fagerbakke, Carolyn Lawrence and Douglas Lawrence also star.

There’s quite an apocalyptic feel in the animated portions, when Bikini Bottom is shown to be under threat.

Antonio Banderas stars as a pirate with a special book – but “to harness its power,” he needs a final page that’s located down in SpongeBob’s world.

To save Bikini Bottom, SpongeBob and friends come to the human world to defeat Banderas’ character – and along the way, of course, we get a glimpse of Patrick’s encounter with ice cream, a feel for Squidward’s scathing commentary, and a look at the enlarged sea creatures (plus Sandy) who undergo the change when it’s time to fight for Bikini Bottom.

The movie opens February 2015. Will you be watching? Let us know in the comments below. – Rappler.com
